Describe the work you do at the Credit Union.

As a community development executive on the Social Impact team, I have the opportunity to engage with the community frequently. I provide financial literacy education to those who are underserved or unbanked; I work with and build relationships with community partners and non-profit organizations that have a significant impact on the community. In addition, I work closely with the Las Vegas Mexican Consulate to ensure we’re providing tools and services for those in their entrepreneurship program and others seeking banking services through the Consulate.

I enjoy working with my team to further the Credit Union’s mission. My job is extremely fulfilling and rewarding. Because of the nature of the work I do, I’m able to see the impact I’m making in the community daily.

What was your first job?

I grew up in Philadelphia. My first job was working with a non-profit organization as a housing counselor and educator. There, I provided pre-purchase counseling and education for first-time homebuyers. Each interaction started with a review of my client’s personal finances to determine where they were in the home-buying process. At the end of each pre-purchase counseling session, I’d provide an action plan outlining next steps to move forward. I also provided an eight-hour homebuyer education course where I was able to inform my clients on each step in the home-buying process. This job set the trajectory of my career.

How did you come to be an SCE Credit Union team member?

In 2023, I was searching for an employment opportunity and noticed the posting for my current role on an online job board. I applied and was able to meet with Diana Cervantes and a few other members of the Social Impact team. After a few interviews, I was welcomed into the SCE FCU family.

My background is in non-profit housing. For over 20 years, I’ve worked in organizations holding titles such as Housing Counselor, Housing Educator, Housing Director and Housing Administrator. In these positions, I was able to provide financial literacy to individuals through counseling and education. I created housing divisions within the non-profit organizations, which continue to provide services to the community to this day.

I’ve also held roles in marketing and communications, where I grew professionally and learned the importance of partnerships and building strong relationships in the community.

How do you spend your free time?

I have a wonderful husband of 14 years. During my free time, I enjoy going to the movies, reading about current events and traveling. I have one adorable 14-year-old chihuahua named Tita. One of my goals is to make an impact on the community and leave a footprint in the Las Vegas Valley.

Do you speak any languages other than English?

Yes, I speak Spanish.
