Branch Manager
Irwindale Branch
Team Member since 2005
Describe the work you do at the Credit Union.
The work I do has many facets – I’m a relationship builder first and foremost with members, my team and the community. It’s very fulfilling; I find it truly heartwarming to make a difference. In my role, I’ve been able to build a presence in our local community through joining and serving on the Irwindale Chamber of Commerce, Baldwin Park Business Association, as well as holding several other volunteer and board member positions. Anything that’s a good cause, I’m happy to dedicate my time to.
What was your first job?
My first part time job was working for the City of Los Angeles’ Parks and Recreation division. While working there in the summers, I worked as an umpire for baseball. I love sports and have since I was young. My first full time job was while I was in junior college. I needed experience with cash handling to get the job I really wanted, so I went into the Montebello Town Center looking for roles where I could get that. Mrs. Fields had an opening, and from there I worked for six months to get the experience with cash management I needed to become a bank teller.
How did you come to be an SCE Credit Union team member?
I originally met my fellow team member Pascual Garrido when we both worked at First Interstate Bank. A few years later, I was working for Wells Fargo as a Branch Manager and attended an event at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles. I saw Pascual there and we were catching up, when he told me about an opening at SCE Credit Union, where he was working. The opening was for a Branch Manager role at the Irwindale branch. I applied for it, and the rest is history!
How do you spend your free time?
I like the simple things – a good dinner, going to the movies, or spending time outdoors. I also love to travel – especially when there is a beach or the ocean nearby. Some of my favorite places I’ve vacationed include: Hawaii, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun and recently the Oregon coast. I’m very competitive and enjoy turning mundane tasks into fun games. As a teen, I had a boombox I would carry around listening to classic rock and my love of music is still going strong – although now I’m open to many types of music. I never had kids, but I love to “borrow” my godson and goddaughter. I’ve taken my godson to many USC football games with me over the years.
Do you speak any languages, other than English?
Hablo español. I also took a semester of French growing up.
